Ron Carroll is one of the hardest working and most talented DJs, producers, singer-songwriters in the business. Part of the second wave of Chicago artists coming on the heels of DJs from the early 80’s, Carroll plays with an exuberance and love for music that is clearly etched in every moment he delivers; whether it be from behind the decks or in the studio.
His collaborations read like a who’s who of House Music royalty and to reference them all would be an impossibly long exercise but when you include the likes of Bob Sinclar, E-Smoove, Mike Dunn, Ce Ce Peniston, Terry Hunter, Stacy Kidd & Hardsoul; you get the picture. He stands comfortably alongside artists like Louie Vega, The Basement Boys and Josh Milan for his gospel infused touches. Indeed, he is also known as the Minister of Sound for all that special flavour he adds to a House Music track.
Ron, cannot be pigeon-holed however and relentlessly pursues that perfect track or performance across a wide range of genres. He is a multi-dimensional artist and has developed a catalogue of music that appeals to the far reaches of the House universe. More importantly, he has moved beyond the fame of the EDM generation and is now back where it all started, steering the ship at his own labels.
He signs and produces some of the finest soulful, jackin’, disco-inspired music doing the rounds for Chicago Soul Exchange and Electric Disco, both of which are fundamental indicators to how well he understands House Music. Releasing tracks under another alter ego, Ron Disko, there is no denying that he is dedicated to continually reinventing himself and breaking new ground.
But it is undoubtedly in the ‘live’ space where you truly get to feel the presence of Ron Carroll and understand what a phenomenally talented artist he is. Whether it be delivering a faultless rendition of the timeless vocal ‘Back Together’ from Hardsoul, throwing down fire at major festivals around the globe, or keeping his legions of fans entertained with his live streams from Le Nocturne Chicago; Ron is quintessentially the embodiment of Chicago House Music.
He practices what he preaches and delivers on his promises. As he says, ‘I will never stop beating the box for my city’ and we should be eternally grateful for that because in a world of many would-be princes, Ron Carroll is definitely king.
